“Nothing seems to be going right in my life. What should I do?”
It’s a question I hear often in coaching and counselling conversations.
And it’s usually followed by:
- I’m not feeling fit.
- My diet is all over the place.
- My relationships are strained.
- My career isn’t going anywhere.
It feels like hitting rock bottom.
And how do I respond?
I respond with a question: What is one small change you’re willing to commit to today?
- 15 minute walk every morning?
- One nutritious meal a day?
- Practicing the pause- saying “Let me think about it” instead of reacting immediately?
- 10 minutes to plan your calendar every morning?
Because that 15 min walk will
- reconnect you with your health
- which will nudge you toward better food choices
- which will improve your sleep
- which will boost your energy
- which will bring back your focus.
And focus will change everything.
And that’s why when you can’t stop yourself going down the rabbit-hole of negativity, your therapist asks you to start with ‘cleaning your wardrobe.’
Because the simple act of doing something small and doable breaks the cycle of feeling stuck and snowballs into big momentum in all other areas of life- think about people having it all -good health, loving relationships and a thriving career.
So maybe today, you start small and let it lead to something big.
