Why I Show Up Even When I Don’t Feel Like It

I don’t like holding daily stand-ups for my team, at least 10% of the days – days when I am simply not feeling up for it.

But I miss attending just 1% of them – when I am out of office or when the sky is falling due to some other burning issue.

So what do I do with the remaining 9%?

I get up, dress up and show up. And I tell my team, “Aaj man nahi tha yaar is meeting ka”

But why not skip it altogether?

Because if I do that just because I didn’t feel like it, not showing up for meetings for similar reasons will become a norm in my team diluting the objectives.

Then why tell them that I wasn’t feeling up for it?

Because if I do that, expressing feelings gets normalised. And as someone who believes that we work with human beings who bring not just thoughts and skills but also emotions to the workplace, I want to encourage it.

Takeaways:

  • you should be disciplined and not let our mood decide our actions.
  • you should create a space for people to express their feelings.
